EMPLOYMENT FROM BANGLADESH

Bangladesh has a huge potential for human resources that cater to the needs of labor-receiving countries. Workers are participating in the development process of both the sending and receiving countries through the migration process. Migrant workers both male and female from Bangladesh are mostly employed in the Middle-eastern and South Asian countries. Workers are being employed with different skills and employment depends on the needs of the workers in a particular country. Each year a large number of people voluntarily migrate overseas for both long- and short-term employment. In the context of a huge population and insufficient facilities to generate new jobs for a growing economy, overseas employment has become one of the primary concerns of the government of Bangladesh towards poverty alleviation, reducing the unemployment problem, and economic development. Formal migration for employment started in 1976 with a modest number of 6078. Presently about 10m Bangladeshis are engaged in overseas employment in more than 159 countries. About 90% of the overseas employment took place in 9 countries only. These are KSA, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Malaysia, Korea and Singapore.
